The Wula Nafaa program focuses on export-oriented activities to increase household and enterprise revenues, predominately in the agriculture and natural resource sectors.

USAID, in accordance with the government of Senegal, financed the second phase of the USAID/Wula Nafaa program activities, after its official close in May of 2008. The new areas of the second phase of the program concern increased good governance for local collectives and community-based organizations, as well as improved communications and political analysis. The zones of intervention include Tambacounda, Kédougou, Kolda et Ziguinchor, accompanied by a new ecological region covering the coastal areas of the Casamance and Sine-Saloum delta. Issues related to fishing and management of maritime resources justify the interventions in these new regions. In addition to fishing, potable water and irrigation are important aspects of the second phase. Finally, the program uses additional financial resources to manage the production and productivity in the peanut basin (in the Kaolack area) but also to promote irrigation and maritime reources.
