USAID/Community Health Program

The Community Health component reflects the recognition that providing communities with the tools to prevent and treat their most pressing health threats has the potential to increase access to quality care and life-saving interventions. Community providers already exist throughout Senegal, and pilot activities have shown that providing them training improves treatment outcomes. The Community Health component works directly in communities, often at the level of the Health Hut (Case de Santé), a basic facility officially outside the government structure but which currently provides a community health volunteer and very basic services and referrals.
